Reading
is one of the most important skills ever. Actually, this necessary skill is well-known
since the beginning of the humankind. Some researches approves, that it goes
historically to the Egyptians. This means, that it has more than 7,000 years
old, or more.
As
we have studied in the TKT course is, that it is a receptive skill.
In addition, we have studied and learned, that there several types of
reading. In fact, they are scanning, reading for details, deducing
meaning from context, understanding text structure, skimming, inferring,
predicting. Each one of these types has a specific purpose.
As
for the question mentioned in the Blogger, asking about the
authentic text. I personally say, that real textbook and reading for pleasure are
the same for many reasons.
In
case of real or educational books, it is deeply important and beneficial for
many remarkable cases. One, educational books are basically published and made
by many scholars, academics, scientists in language, researchers, and many
others, so it is certainly going to be suitable and enhanced for the learners.
Two, they are somehow fit the students mentality to get the content easily.
Three, in those books, there are activities, pre-reading exercises, where the
learners generally is going to understand what is going on simply, because it
is made for him/her.
For authentic
reading, it is in my personal opinion, a game with the brain, and for sure
needed for the students because of many reasons. One, authentic reading is
actually a supplementary one with the ones given in the class (REAL READING,
AND OFFICIAL CRUCULIM). Two, it helps the students to speak fluently with daily
life actions.
Finally, I wish my brief summary is going to help you a lot, because we
are going to be teachers, and we need these sources.
